Galliani hopeful over Ancelotti deal

Adriano Galliani hopes Milan can tug on the heart-strings of Carlo Ancelotti and lure him back to San Siro for a second stint in charge.

Ancelotti is in demand following his exit from Real Madrid earlier this week, and Milan are hoping to gazump any other potential suitors and agree a deal with the 55-year-old.

However, Milan are not at the same level as the club he previously managed between 2001 and 2009, so chief executive Galliani knows they have a tough job to convince Ancelotti to return.

He will give us his final answer next Wednesday, Galliani told Sport Mediaset after a meeting with the former Chelsea boss.

According to Carlo the decision is 50-50, but we are hoping that on Wednesday it will become 100 per cent, but I fear it may become zero…

Alves: I almost joined Madrid

Barcelona full-back Dani Alves revealed he almost joined Real Madrid instead of the Catalan giants.

Alves signed for the La Liga champions in 2008 for a then-record fee for a full-back when Barcelona paid Sevilla €30million.

But Alves said his fate might have been different had he seen through a move to Real Madrid which he says was almost done.

The revelation came during a Spanish radio interview in which Alves discussed Neymar s future at the club.

People should know Neymar and his family better before they give their opinion, Alves told Spanish radio station Onda Cero.

In life, people move on their interests and even more when money is an issue.

I never hid my move to Real Madrid was almost done my fate changed and I arrived at Bar…

British league switch could see Celtic win Champions League – Van Hooijdonk

Pierre van Hooijdonk feels Celtic could win the Champions League if they were allowed to make the switch to the English league system.

Celtic majority shareholder Dermot Desmond has recently talked up the possibility of Celtic and Glasgow rivals Rangers joining the Premier League.

English clubs rejected a proposal to incorporate Celtic and Rangers into a second tier of the Premier League back in 2009, with the division s chief executive Richard Scudamore labelling the idea a non-starter at the time.

But Celtic manager Ronny Deila has given his backing to the possibility of Celtic playing in a British league and Van Hooijdonk who played at Parkhead from 1995 to 1997 believes a switch could have a huge impact on the club s fortunes.

I hope that it happen…

Girona 0 Barcelona 2: Messi and Ter Stegen see Barca past local rivals

Lionel Messi returned to crown Barcelona s 2-0 win over 10-man Girona – re-establishing the champions five-point lead at LaLiga s summit.

Portugal right-back Nelson Semedo struck after nine minutes at Estadi Montilivi but, four days on from a 2-0 loss to Sevilla in the first leg of their Copa del Rey quarter-final, Ernesto Valverde s side were far from their fluent best.

Indeed, immediately after Bernardo Espinosa s red card for two bookable offences early in the second half, Girona continued to create the better chances and Barca were indebted to the heroics of goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen.

Messi came off the bench with last weekend s 3-1 win over Leganes in the balance and sat out the trip to Sevilla, but was at the heart of most of Barcelona s best attac…

Sergio Ramos says Champions League added to lure of ’emotional’ Sevilla return

Sergio Ramos admits the appeal of Champions League football only added to the lure of an emotional return to Sevilla and is hoping injury will not rule him out of Wednesday’s trip to Arsenal.

The 37-year-old won the competition four times during a trophy-laden spell at Real Madrid but is now back at his boyhood club following a stint with Paris St Germain.

The former Spain centre-back is currently struggling with a calf injury and could miss Sevilla’s crucial Group B clash away to Arsenal.

Defeat for the reigning Europa League champions would leave their chances of progression into the Champions League knockout stages on a knife-edge with two games remaining.

Ramos will no doubt be desperate to feature and help keep Sevilla’s ambitions alive after m…

Haaland cites ´insanely good´ Benzema as inspiration as he looks to evolve at Man City

Manchester City striker Erling Haaland has cited insanely good Karim Benzema as inspiration as he vowed to never stop improving at the Etihad Stadium.

Haaland has made a solid start to life in England since his £51million (€60m) move from Borussia Dortmund, scoring three goals in as many Premier League games for the reigning champions.

City pipped some of the world s biggest clubs in the race to secure the services of the Norway international, including reigning LaLiga and Champions League winners Real Madrid.

Madrid talisman Benzema played an instrumental role during their successful 2021-22 season, top-scoring in both competitions along the way, while he recently surpassed Raul (323) as the club s second-leading marksman of all-time behind only Cristi…

Manchester City defender Joao Cancelo described the attack on his home late last year as horrific .

Cancelo revealed on social media in December that four cowards left him with cuts to his face and tried to hurt his family before making off with some jewellery.

The Portuguese full-back on Monday discussed the incident publicly for the first time and detailed the impact it had on his family.

That s life, it happens, Cancelo said ahead of Tuesday s Champions League last-16 meeting with Sporting CP.

It was horrific. It terrorised my family. For me, I know how to deal with stuff, but my family didn t deserve to go through that.
