Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta hails the ‘maturity’ of young Gunners after City win

Mikel Arteta lauded the maturity of Arsenal after they sent a message with a first Premier League win over Manchester City since 2015.

Gabriel Martinelli’s deflected effort in the 86th minute ended the Gunners’ run of 12 consecutive top-flight defeats to Pep Guardiola’s side.

It helped Arsenal leapfrog City in the table to finish the weekend as joint leaders and while Guardiola insisted his champions are happy to chase again like they managed successfully last season, it felt like a potentially decisive early blow had been landed between these title rivals.

Rodri to Real Madrid? ´I tell him every day to leave City´, says Carvajal

Rodri is being told to leave Manchester City every day by Dani Carvajal as the Real Madrid defender believes his Spain team-mate is perfect for the LaLiga giants.

The pair are playing together at Euro 2024, where Spain will meet England in Sunday s final in Berlin.

While the Three Lions were widely considered the pre-tournament favourites, La Roja have been the standout team at the finals, led by Rodri.

The 28-year-old midfielder has established himself as one of the best in world football since joining City from Atletico Madrid in 2019.

And despite his Atleti past, Rodri can be in no doubt about the sort of welcome he would receive if he returned to Madrid, his home city, with Los Blancos.

Carvajal has made it clear how Rodri would fit in at the …

Euro 2012 preview: Germany v Kazakhstan

Unbeaten Germany will look to maintain their 100 per cent record in Group A of Euro 2012 qualifying when they tackle cellar dwellers Kazakhstan.

Germany should collect their fifth straight win on Saturday when they host a Kazakhstan team that has yet to earn their first point in this campaign.

The match is likely to be a tough baptism of fire for new Kazakh coach Miroslav Beranek.

Beranek, 53, only took over the reins seven weeks ago following the resignation of German Bernd Storck in October but he seems to be on a mission impossible.

Kazakhstan have lost all four of their qualifiers, conceding 10 goals and failing to find the net so far. Germany beat their opponents 3-0 with second half goals from Miroslav Klose, Mario Gomez and Lukas Podolski.

Celtic 2-1 Rangers: Hoops claim bragging rights in Old Firm

Celtic move six points clear at the top of the Scottish Premiership after a 2-1 win over 10-man Rangers at Celtic Park.

John Lundstram scored an own goal in the first half to double Celtic s lead shortly after Matt O Riley opened the scoring before the Englishman was sent off on the stroke of half-time for a late lunge on Alistair Johnston.

Celtic could not add to their advantage in the second half as O Riley saw a penalty saved by Jack Butland before Daizen Maeda had two goals disallowed by the offside flag.

With two games left of the season, Celtic s title charge remains in their own hands, with Rangers having to hope they slip up to give them a chance of finishing top.

Hart backs ´incredibly strong´ Three Lions for Euro 2024 glory

England are incredibly strong and definitely good enough to go all the way at Euro 2024, insists former Three Lions goalkeeper Joe Hart.

Gareth Southgate s side, who were runners-up to Italy at the delayed Euro 2020, are among the favourites to go one better and lift the Henri Delaunay trophy in Germany this year, and there is envious quality within their ranks.

Jude Bellingham played a starring role during his debut season with Real Madrid, with Harry Kane following suit at Bayern Munich, while Phil Foden, Kyle Walker and John Stones are fresh from winning a record-breaking fourth successive Premier League title with Manchester City.

Hart, who recently announced his retirement from professional football, represented England at two European Championships in 2012 …

Mauricio Pochettino: Chelsea would have struggled in Europe because of injuries

Mauricio Pochettino said he doubts whether Chelsea could have handled a European campaign this season as he has grappled with an injury crisis.

The Argentinian could be without 11 players for Monday’s game against Everton, with Enzo Fernandez and Raheem Sterling the latest doubts for the meeting at Stamford Bridge.

It has been the club’s first campaign without European competition since 2016/17, and only their second since 1996/97, following a 12th-place finish in the Premier League last season.

Colorado Rapids v New York Red Bulls: Armas says past results count for nought

The Colorado Rapids are seeking a fifth straight home win when they face the New York Red Bulls on Saturday, but coach Chris Armas says their previous results will count for nothing if they do not execute on the day.

Colorado sit fourth in the Western Conference, six points behind leaders Los Angeles FC, after winning five of their last six games (one defeat).

At DICK S Sporting Goods Park, they have won their last four matches against Austin FC (2-0), CF Montreal (4-1), Sporting Kansas City (2-1) and St. Louis City (4-1).

Armas, however, says all that good work could easily be undone if they do not understand how to combat the Red Bulls high-pressing style.

It s five out of the last six that we ve won but this is the past. We have to reset and be ready …

Sissoko: France will come back stronger after Euro 2016 heartbreak

While bemoaning France s lack of luck in Sunday s Euro 2016 final defeat to Portugal, disappointed midfielder Moussa Sissoko said his team-mates will come back stronger.

Hosts France were unable to make it over the final hurdle in their bid for a third European Championship crown at the Stade de France, stunned 1-0 by Portugal after extra time in Paris.

Despite losing captain Cristiano Ronaldo to injury in the first half, Portugal emerged triumphant thanks to substitute Eder s 109th-minute strike, after Sissoko had come close, while Andre-Pierre Gignac almost scored a stoppage-time winner in regulation as his shot hit the post.

Speaking afterwards, Sissoko said: There is a lot of disappointment and sadness in the locker room because we did a very good match.
